Sinonasal tumors are growths in the nasal cavity or sinuses. While uncommon, they can be benign (not cancerous) or malignant (cancerous).
What Causes Them?
Many types of tumors can develop here. Some common ones include squamous cell carcinoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma. Risk factors include exposure to industrial fumes, tobacco, and radiation.
Symptoms to Watch For
Early signs can mimic a cold, but persistent symptoms like nasal blockage on one side, frequent nosebleeds, facial pain, or changes in vision or smell warrant a doctor's visit.
Diagnosis: Getting a Clear Picture
Doctors use a combination of exams, imaging (CT scans or MRIs), and biopsies to diagnose the type and spread of the tumor.
Treatment Options: Surgery is Key
Surgery is the mainstay of treatment, often combined with radiation therapy. Reconstruction surgery might be needed to address any cosmetic or functional issues.
